Made-to-measure orders, cancellations and product safety

1. Who we are

2. What "made to measure" means

Some of our covers are cut and stitched only after you send us your measurements – for example covers listed as "made to your measurements", covers in custom sizes, and helm covers for yachts and boats. We start making the cover once we have your measurements. Standard covers that we make to a fixed size for a listed model are not made to measure.

3. Cancelling a made-to-measure order

You can cancel free of charge until we start making your cover (we start once we have your measurements). Once we have started, the cover is made to your specification, so the statutory 14-day right to cancel does not apply to it (Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, regulation 28(1)(b)). This means a made-to-measure cover can't be returned for a change of mind.

4. Faulty or not as described – always covered

This does not affect your statutory rights. If any cover – made to measure or standard – is faulty, not as described, or doesn't match the measurements you gave us, you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and we cover the return postage. To help us sort it out quickly, please contact us with your order number and a photo before sending anything back. Orders placed on eBay are also covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.

5. Standard covers

Standard covers can be returned within 30 days of delivery as described on our Returns page (UK: we pay the return postage; international: the buyer pays the return postage). You also have the statutory right to cancel within 14 days of delivery.

6. Product safety information

  • Product: genuine leather steering wheel cover (or helm cover), sewn on by hand to the rim of the wheel using the needle and thread supplied.

  • Manufacturer: Shades of Tuning Ltd, 1 Water Lake Avenue, Cranbrook, Exeter, England, EX5 7HW, United Kingdom. Each order includes the product name and our contact details.

  • Fit the cover only to the rim of the wheel. Never cover, cut or stitch over the airbag module, the horn pad or any controls on the wheel.

  • Fit the cover with the vehicle parked and the engine off. Do not drive until the cover is fully stitched, tight on the rim and does not move when you grip it.

  • Check the cover from time to time; if the stitching loosens or the cover moves on the rim, stop using it and contact us.

  • The kit contains a sewing needle – keep it away from children and dispose of it safely after fitting.

7. Complaints and law

If something goes wrong, please contact us first – we aim to reply within 2 working days. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales; if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
